3-Day Mount Meru Climbing

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut (2,514m)
The adventure begins with a scenic drive from Arusha to the Momella Gate (1,500m), where you’ll register and start your ascent. The trek takes you through lush montane forests, where you’ll spot wildlife such as giraffes and monkeys. The first day’s hike will be moderate, with gradual climbs leading you to Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) for your overnight stay. The stunning views of the surrounding peaks and valleys make this a memorable first day.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (3,570m)
After breakfast, you’ll continue the hike to Saddle Hut, which sits at 3,570m. This stretch will take you through alpine meadows and low scrub, offering breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day. You’ll also catch glimpses of the Meru Crater and its jagged cliffs. Upon reaching Saddle Hut, you’ll have the option to rest, acclimatize, and prepare for the summit attempt the next day.

Day 3: Saddle Hut to Summit (4,566m) and Descend to Momella Gate
An early morning start (around 2:00 AM) for a challenging summit attempt is the highlight of the trek. The climb to the summit of Mount Meru (4,566m) takes you across rocky terrain and offers rewarding panoramic views from the top, including sights of Mount Kilimanjaro. After celebrating your success, you’ll descend back to Saddle Hut for a brief rest, then continue descending to Momella Gate, where you’ll be driven back to Arusha.
